The season is finally here for parties and holiday gatherings with friends, family, and co-workers! The reality is…it’s easy to neglect your dental hygiene routine during the holiday season. Here are some easy tips to help you maintain your dental health!
- Keep your dental appointments…if you haven’t been in awhile; call the office today to schedule your next appointment and utilize your insurance benefits before the end of the year. Start next year on a positive, healthy note!
- Definitely enjoy all the delicious sweets and treats this holiday season, but try to include drinking water or chewing sugar-free gum in your daily routine! These can help get rid of bacteria and loosen up and remove food or sweets trapped between your teeth. Also, after brushing at night, spit out any excess toothpaste. However, don’t rinse immediately after brushing so you can get a boost of fluoride overnight to help prevent cavities.
- Carry travel size floss to use after those wonderful holiday meals, which can reach areas that even a toothbrush can’t get to! Since there is a good chance some food will remain after meals, it is important to remove any leftover particles before they lead to bad breath and plaque.
- Protect your teeth! Resist the temptation to use your teeth to crack open nuts, open bottles and containers, or open that special gift from a loved one. All of these can cause your teeth to break and lead to serious tooth damage. Dig in your tool drawer for a better option than your teeth!
